Physicians

The senior administrator responsible for Medical Services within Central Health is the Vice president of Medical Affairs, Dr Michael Zuckerman. His office is staffed by staff at both James Paton Memorial Regional Health Centre, Ms Debbie Trainor and Corporate Office, Dr. Ann Roberts, Medical Officer of Health, Ms Janelle Hillier and Natalie Nichols. This group exists to support and manage physician resources across the entire region and its facilities. Dr. Zuckerman and staff receive direction from the CEO and Board of Trustees, with input from the Chiefs of Staff and Medical Advisory Committees across the region.

The professional relationship between physicians and Central Health is documented formally within the by-laws of both James Paton Memorial Regional Health Centre and the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre. Within this framework there is a Medical Staff Committee, chaired by an elected President, Dr Barry Gallagher. The Medical Staff Committee meetings are attended by senior nursing and administrative staff. As well, each physician is expected to attend meetings of this committee and in general these are held monthly during the evening. The Medical Staff Committee exists as a mechanism for informing physicians about administrative and organizational issues and provides a channel for views of the staff, collective and individual, to reach senior management.

The physicians of Central Health are organized into groups based on their clinical disciplines. Each group has a Chief who sits on a Medical Advisory Committee. This committee is chaired by the Chief of Staff, Dr. R. Brahmbhatt, who is appointed by the Board of Trustees of Central Health. This committee, which meets monthly, develops policies and procedures for staff, oversees credentialing of physicians, and advises senior management on clinical issues.

The licensing process for physicians is handled through the College of Physicians and Surgeons of NL (CPSNL). To initiate the licensing process, a physician must forward his/her Curriculum vitae directly to the CPSNL for assessment. Their current contact information is:
