Health Protection
The Health Protection Division includes Communicable Disease Control, Environmental Health and Health Emergency Management. The division acts under the direction of the Medical Officer of Health (MOH) and is designed to protect the health of the public by the identification, reduction, and elimination of hazards and risks. Legislative authority comes from the Health & Community Services Act, the Communicable Disease Act and Amendments Order, the Venereal Disease Prevention Act, the Food and Drug Act, the Tobacco Control Act, the Smoke-Free Environmental Act and related regulations. Genetics Clinic
The genetics nurse with Eastern Health used to share the office space with Health Protection, and most recently, with Infection Prevention and Control.
Please be advised that the Central Outreach Genetics Clinic located at James Paton Memorial Regional Health Centre, will be closed after December 31, 2019.
Any inquiries should be directed to the Provincial Medical Genetics Program (Health Sciences Centre) in St. John’s.
